New World: The Bridge of Memories
An installation art exhibition that decodes and reimagines the narratives of Banglamphu, featuring the iconic New World Department Store as a “Bridge of Memories” connecting the past to the present.
The exhibition explores the history and identity of eight local communities and one historic area (encompassing Khaosan, Phra Athit, and Phra Sumen Roads). These narratives are woven into five core storylines, brought to life by five designer collectives. This process of decoding the community’s soul is built upon a foundation of collected data, oral histories, and personal memories—the essential raw materials that ensure every artwork is authentically rooted in the community.
Using the “New World” space—a symbolic landmark of collective memory—serves as a powerful historical link. Here, art acts as a catalyst to raise public awareness and captivate audiences, breathing new life into the stories that define this district.
“8+1 Circuit of Stories” does more than just reflect community memories; it makes the history of Banglamphu more accessible and contemporary for the younger generation and visitors alike. It creates a space for new interpretations, seamlessly weaving the legacy of the past into the fabric of modern urban life.
